Healthcare professionals and stakeholders come together to understand NABH standards, accreditation pathways and practical approaches to quality improvement

Ujala Cygnus Rainbow Hospital, Agra, in collaboration with the Quality Council of India (QCI) and the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH), hosted the QCI–NABH Gunvatta Yatra in Agra, bringing together healthcare professionals and stakeholders to strengthen awareness around healthcare quality, patient safety and accreditation.

The programme featured an awareness session on NABH programmes and accreditation, with discussions covering standardised processes, quality management systems, patient safety and the accreditation journey. Participants also gained practical insights into how healthcare organisations can work towards implementing quality standards across their clinical and operational practices.

The Gunvatta Yatra, an initiative of QCI through NABH, is part of a broader national effort to promote a culture of quality across India's healthcare ecosystem. Through such programmes, healthcare organisations are supported in understanding accreditation and certification pathways and translating quality standards into stronger systems and more consistent, patient-centred care.

Clinical Leadership and Quality at the Centre

Dr. Shuchin Bajaj, Founder & Director, Ujala Cygnus Healthcare Services, and NABH Board Member, emphasised that quality must go beyond accreditation and documentation to become an integral part of an organisation’s culture and everyday functioning.

“Quality should be a culture not a checklist. It has to be built into the system, embedded in our processes and reflected in every action we take. Accreditation provides a framework, but real quality comes when every member of the healthcare team takes ownership of delivering safe, consistent and patient-centred care.”

The programme also benefited from the participation of Dr. Narendra Malhotra, Managing Director, Ujala Cygnus Rainbow Hospital, Agra, and Director, ART, Rainbow IVF, whose longstanding leadership in healthcare and reproductive medicine has contributed to the development of specialised healthcare services in the region. With decades of experience in women’s health, infertility and reproductive medicine, Dr. Malhotra brought a valuable clinical leadership perspective to the discussion, highlighting the importance of strong systems, clinical standards and continuous improvement in delivering quality patient care.

Building a Culture of Quality Across Ujala Cygnus

The initiative was supported by the Ujala Cygnus leadership and organising team, with Dr. Vandana Chawla playing a key role in conceptualising and coordinating the engagement around quality and accreditation.

Dr. Vandana Chawla emphasised that quality is ultimately experienced by the patient and is reflected in every interaction and every clinical decision.

“When patients come to a hospital, they hand over their loved ones to us with immense trust. Quality is not a document sitting on a shelf it is reflected in how a nurse communicates with a patient, how a doctor makes clinical decisions, how medicines are prescribed and administered, and how every aspect of treatment and care is delivered. True quality is experienced at the bedside, in every interaction, every decision and every moment of care.”

She further highlighted that building a sustainable culture of quality requires translating standards into everyday clinical practice, strengthening accountability across teams and keeping patient safety at the heart of healthcare delivery.

The successful organisation of the Agra programme was made possible through the dedicated support, leadership and coordination of the Ujala Cygnus Rainbow Hospital, Agra team, including Dr. Rananjay, Unit Head; Mr. Tej, Zonal Head; Mr. Rakesh Ahuja, General Manager; Dr. Deepak, Medical Superintendent; Mr. Nitin, Marketing Head; Dr. Atul Krishnadev; and Mr. Shaminder Singh, Academics & Research team, along with the team of Rainbow Hospital Agra. Their collective efforts played an important role in bringing together the hospital team, healthcare professionals, and participating stakeholders and ensuring the successful execution of the programme.

The collaboration with QCI and NABH reflects Ujala Cygnus Hospitals' continued focus on strengthening quality systems and encouraging a culture of patient safety and continuous improvement across its network.

Quality as a Continuous Journey

The Agra edition of the Gunvatta Yatra represents another step towards strengthening dialogue around healthcare quality and accreditation among healthcare institutions in the region.

By creating greater awareness of NABH standards and the accreditation process, such programmes can help healthcare organisations move from understanding quality standards to integrating them into clinical, operational and patient-care processes.

Ujala Cygnus Hospitals remains committed to working with QCI, NABH and healthcare stakeholders to advance quality-driven, safe and patient-centred healthcare and contribute to the broader movement towards stronger healthcare systems across India.
